Helping People

As a psychologist, my goal each day is to help people solve problems that are interfering with their quality of life. One of my specialties is working with people who are dealing with drug or alcohol issues. In my years of practice, I have successfully treated hundreds of adolescents, teenagers and adults to help them find a better way. Other areas I specialize in include individuals who feel "stuck" in a certain place in their life and individuals or couples with common challenges that are standing in the way of their happiness. These can include anxiety, stress, personality disorders and depression. I have extensive experience with families and couples in crisis, as well as mending broken relationships.

Stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and other mental health conditions are very common. As the economy and financial markets have struggled, there have been increases in the stresses on individuals and families, particularly in the New York area. Mental health conditions can cause significant pain to sufferers and to their friends and family. Fortunately, today, there are many new treatment methods available that can reduce the pain and suffering from mental health conditions.

I believe that the therapeutic value of the doctor-patient relationship is of utmost importance. My approach to therapy is a combination of the genuine care and concern, empathetic skills, and a non-judgemental approach coupled with over 50 different evidenced based strategies (ie-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)) that have worked for hundreds of my patients.

One of my specialties is working with adolescents, teenagers and adults who are having problems with drug abuse, alcoholism and addiction. Another one of my specialties is working with Long Island couples on interpersonal relationships through couples, marriage, individual and family counseling. If there has been a divorce or breakup, I am an expert at helping family members work through the aftermath. I also handle New York no-fault cases and I am certified to handle Workman's Compensation cases. Psychology is a second career for me. In my first career, I was a professional musician in New York City. I played guitar with a number of different bands and acts. I worked as a studio musician for a number of Grammy award winning performers. I continue to perform as a studio musician and to record my own songs.

My music career has provided me with a significant advantage in helping people therapeutically. I have worked with, and seen first hand, the enormous stresses that can build up for people who are working in high profile and high pressure jobs. I have also seen the effects of these types of jobs on friends and family members. My patients tell me that I have a significantly better ability to "relate" to them because of my music career.
